"Dream is unquestionably the first path that leads to freedom. To dream is to already be free."- Franketienne

Haiti Créateurs de Rêves is a fascinating journey through different sectors of Design, Crafts, and Fashion in Haiti. It is also a tribute to our creators of yesterday and today, highlighting the diversity and richness of their expressions while emphasizing the inherent identity and uniqueness of each. This book serves as a mapping of our numerous skills, contributing to the appreciation of our material and immaterial heritage through a written document based on research spanning three generations of creators in the mentioned fields.

It aims to raise awareness about the creative dimension of artisanal professions, their presence on the global stage of cultural and innovative industries, and the importance of integrating them into contemporary societal debates and challenges. Talents and craftsmanship will be widely showcased, demonstrating the richness of their achievements, and creating an intergenerational and intercultural bridge between creators from here and beyond.

A documentary and iconographic research on our designers, spanning three generations, was conducted over several months. The exploration of our creators' technical skills is a celebration of gestures passed down from generation to generation. These crafts offer new narratives of blending and modernity, with rich and complex stories that speak volumes about a past imbued with traditions and cultural diversity influenced by African, indigenous, and European heritages.

Haiti's exceptional artistic production within the Caribbean embodies this harmonious fusion, showcasing the expertise of gestures, a secular heritage of skills, intergenerational transmission, and mastery of materials. Thanks to this subtle balance, Haitian artists often create beauty from very little, giving soul to the material.

These skills, revisited by some, also reflect the complexity of the past and present, with genuine scars, challenges, and issues that these artists face daily. They use their art as a powerful means to address societal, political, religious, and environmental issues, transforming their creations into an effective vector for awareness and hope for a more serene future.

Haïti Créateurs de rêves,  is an ode to the intelligence of gestures, the power of tradition, and the ability to shape the future while honoring the past. It pays homage to passion, resistance, resilience, and, above all, expresses consideration for those who still dare to dream!

This work, a wonderful journey through time, has been guided by the constant concern of not forgetting anything essential. Surely not everything has been said, but I have endeavored to bring a certain unity, a harmony to over 80 years of existence, so rich and captivating!

An abundant illustration enriches the texts built mainly from information and excerpts taken from writings of artists, collaborators, and friends of the renownpianist.
